Fix missing, inaccurate, or interrupted GPS tracking in Qpaws | Android

If your route is missing, inaccurate, or stops partway through an activity, the cause is usually Android's location permissions or battery-saving settings.

Most problems are solved by Steps 1–3. Start there for the quick fix.

1. Restart your phone

A quick restart can clear temporary GPS or location issues.

Restart your phone, open Qpaws, and try again.

2. Allow location access all the time

This is the most important setting.

Go to:

Settings → Apps → Qpaws → Permissions → Location

Make sure:

• Location: On
• Permission: Allow all the time
• Precise location: On (if available)

If Qpaws isn't allowed to access your location in the background, Android may stop providing location data when your screen turns off or Qpaws moves to the background.

Does "Allow all the time" mean Qpaws tracks me 24/7?

No.

Qpaws only uses your location when you have an activity running — from the moment you press Start until you stop the activity.

Android requires the "Allow all the time" permission so an activity can continue tracking when your phone is locked or Qpaws is in the background.

Qpaws does not continuously track your location when you're not recording an activity.

3. Remove battery restrictions for Qpaws

Android may restrict apps running in the background to save battery. This is a common reason for tracking that stops partway through an activity.

Go to:

Settings → Apps → Qpaws → Battery

Set Qpaws to:

Unrestricted

Depending on your phone, this may instead be called Don't optimize, No restrictions, or something similar.

4. Check your phone's location settings

Go to:

Settings → Location

Make sure Location is turned on.

Under Location services, enable Google Location Accuracy or Improve Location Accuracy, if available.

The exact wording varies between Android versions and manufacturers.

5. Check manufacturer-specific battery settings

Some Android manufacturers add additional battery-saving features that can stop apps from running in the background.

Samsung

Go to:

Settings → Apps → Qpaws → Battery → Unrestricted

Then check:

Settings → Battery → Background usage limits

Make sure Qpaws is not listed under:

• Sleeping apps
• Deep sleeping apps

If available, add Qpaws to Never sleeping apps.

Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO

Go to:

Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Qpaws

• Enable Autostart
• Set battery usage to No restrictions

OnePlus

Find Qpaws under your battery optimization settings and select:

Don't optimize

Huawei

Allow Qpaws to run in the background and disable battery optimization for Qpaws.

Other Android phones

Look for Battery optimization, Background activity, or similar settings and make sure Qpaws is allowed to run without restrictions while tracking.

6. Test outdoors

GPS works best with a clear view of the sky.

• Go outside to an open area
• Open Qpaws
• Start a tracked activity
• Give your phone a few seconds to establish your location before moving

Tall buildings, mountains, dense forest, and being indoors can reduce GPS accuracy.

7. Keep Qpaws and Android updated

Make sure you're using the latest version of:

• Qpaws
• Android

Updates can include fixes related to location services, background activity, and GPS tracking.
